Shutter Speed effects the movement and light in a photo. It is represented in fractions and seconds on the camera. You can manipulate the shutter speed on a camera both in manual mode and shutter mode, the differnce between the two are that in manual mode your camera does not choose anything off of default for you, but in shutter mode the camera chooses the the ISO and Fstop. You may want control of the shutter speed when you want to be in control of the light you are taking in or of the movement. The photos that I took were using the shutter speed in a dark room and also using shutter speed to try and take a normal picture in unlikely lighting.
